“From Monday, October 11, 2021, fully vaccinated travellers from Nigeria will come to England without needing to provide a pre-departure test, undertake a day 8 test, or self-isolate for 10 days,” a statement from the British High Commission in Abuja read.

Vaccinated passengers will still need to undergo a test within 2 days of their entry into the UK. They must purchase this test before entering the UK, as evidence of purchase is a prerequisite to boarding a UK-bound flight.

The British High Commission says they will only recognize a fully vaccinated person as one who has taken a full course of the approved vaccines at least 14 days before travelling to the United Kingdom.

Fully vaccinated means that you have had a complete dose of an approved vaccine at least 14 days before you arrive in England. The day you had your last dose does not count as one of the 14 days,” the statement said.

To qualify for the exemption, you must have undergone a full vaccination program and show valid proof of vaccination. For Nigerians, you can show proof of vaccination with the certificates and valid QR codes issued by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA). You must have valid proof of vaccination before you can qualify for the exemption.

Commenting on the development, Ben Llewellyn-Jones said, “The exemption of fully vaccinated Nigerians travelling to the UK from providing a pre-departure test and self-isolating for 10 days is a very welcome development. To make this happen, we have been working closely with Nigeria’s National Primary Health Care Development Agency on recognizing Nigeria’s vaccine certification, which we have.”

Conversely, Nigerians who have not been vaccinated are still required to follow the COVID-19 guidelines before and after getting to the UK.

According to the memo, here are some steps you must take:

  • Take a pre-departure COVID-19 test—to be taken in the 3 days before travel.
