Medbury and NiBUCAA prioritizing HIV and Mental Health in the Workplace

Medbury Medical Services, in conjunction with the Nigerian Business Coalition Against AIDS (NiBUCAA), organized a roundtable meeting for top business executives and human resources (HR) managers on how employees’ well-being enhances productivity. The roundtable, which was held at the Civic Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos, deliberated on the theme “Prioritising HIV and Mental Health in the Workplace.”

The event was organized to enable employers to identify how employees’ mental wellness determines the productivity/growth of their business and to encourage them to invest time in the general well-being of staff knowing that it can make or mar any business.

Employees need to know what is always available for them in the workplace in terms of clinical support. Thus, Medbury advises that having an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will go a long way in managing mental health issues that could sometimes be triggered by a positive HIV status which makes one question their job security. EAP Services such as counseling, psychological training sessions, and regular screening, therefore, should be made an integral part of a routine in human resources services, this will prompt employers to assist employees with challenges that may hinder their high performance on the job.
