Nigeria Revises COVID-19 Travel Protocol

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a revision of its COVID-19 protocol for travellers visiting the country.

The new guidelines, taking effect from the 25th of October, 2021, waive the 7-day mandatory isolation for vaccinated visitors. 

known in a press release signed by the chairperson of the Presidential Steering Committee and Secretary to the Government, Boss Mustapha.

Boss Mustapha had earlier during a national briefing that the PSC will look into revising the COVID-19 protocols for visitors.

Nigerian COVID-19 Protocol

Here are key highlights from the new guidelines:

  • Travellers arriving in Nigeria must present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result that was conducted only 72 hours before boarding.
  • It will require unvaccinated visitors to observe a mandatory 7-day isolation, and will need to take a COVID-19 PCR test on day 2 and day 7 after arrival.
  • Fully vaccinated people visiting Nigeria will not observe the mandatory 7-day self-isolation, but will take a COVID-19 PCR test on day 2 of their arrival. (Click here to see how you can book a day 2 and a day 7 post-arrival test.)
  • For people whose visit to Nigeria involves conducting business that requires them to stay less than 7 days in the country.

They must meet the following conditions:

  1. They must have taken vaccinations.
  2. Show a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken only 72 hours before boarding.
  3. Conduct a PCR test on day 2 of their arrival.
